HAVERHILL — About 275 women from throughout the region headed to Salisbury Beach on Friday to be part of the 21st Annual Winning Opportunities for Women Conference.
Presented by the Greater Haverhill Chamber of Commerce, this year’s event at the Blue Ocean Music Hall, carried the theme “Inspiring Women.”
“This event is so very important for women each year as the speakers are so wonderfully inspirational,” said Donna Spencer Collins, pastor of the Phoenix Rising United Church of Christ on Merrimack Street in Haverhill.
Motivational talks were given by Gina Barreca, author, humorist and professor of Feminist Theory; Susan Leger Ferraro, founder and CEO of Imajine That and G3; Cheryl Fiandaca, WBZ-TV chief investigative reporter; and Rebecca “Becca” Pizzi, who in January of 2016 became the first American woman to run seven marathons on seven continents in seven days.
“The conference offers women a sense of empowerment and the atmosphere here has a special quality,” Collins said.
